Darius Rucker Felt Compelled to Expose Racist Tweeter

Darius Rucker says he knew that the person behind the racist tweet sent to him earlier this week was baiting him, but he couldn't resist exposing them. Racism is something the singer says he's dealt with since his Hootie and the Blowfish days, and usually he just brushes it off. But this person took his vitriol to a new level.

"I read a couple of his tweets and was like, 'This guy's a real racist; he ain't kidding,'" Rucker told USA Today. "I was like, 'I have to expose this idiot.'"

The account '@pqkullman' was deleted, however it's recently been started up again by someone who says they're not the racist tweeter. The profile has bee re-registered to "promote good things and not hatred," a statement at the profile reads.

"We think we've come such a long way, and there's always somebody that wants to take a step back," Rucker says. The original tweet came on May 19. "Leave the country to the white folk," it read, to which Rucker responded, "I'll take my grand ole Opry membership and leave your racism. Wow."

Bigoted comments are "few and far between," the 47-year-old says. Another came six months ago. "Obviously, he was drunk, but he was vicious. The things he said made that tweet look like nothing. I heard that guy ended up getting kicked out of his fraternity and kicked out of his college because of the tweets."

"They're all cowards. They want to hide behind the keyboard and call their friends and say, 'Look what I said to Darius Rucker.'"

Rucker released his new album, 'True Believers,' on Tuesday. The project contains the No. 1 hit 'Wagon Wheel.' It's his third country album since debuting as a solo artist in 2008.
